Nattokinase is a serine
proteinase produced during the fermentation of the traditional Japanese
condiment natto by the probiotic Bacillus subtilis (natto). Nattokinase
supports fibrinolysis, the breaking up of thrombi (abnormal blood clots
within blood vessels), by reducing excessive levels of plasminogen
activator inhibitor type I (PAI-1), an enzyme, which suppresses the
body's fibrinolytic activity. Fibrinolysis is essential to maintaining
healthy vascular structure and function.

trauma); by persons who have suffered major trauma in the previous
month, or ischemic stroke or neurosurgery in the previous six months; or
by persons who have ever had an intracranial bleed.
