Using Sierrasil® Products

Can I take SierraSil® if I am pregnant?

Our clinical studies have not included pregnant or breastfeeding women. Therefore we recommend for any specific health conditions, including pregnancy and breast feeding consult with your physician first. There is however no known reason to be concerned with taking SierraSil® if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Can I take SierraSil® while on medication?

Please advise your health care practitioner prior to using any new medications or supplements, including SierraSil®. SierraSil® is a natural mineral powder that has been extensively tested for safety and is not known to have any adverse effects, however SierraSil® should be taken at a different time of day, than your medication or supplements. Take SierraSil® with water at least half an hour before, or two hours after a meal or other beverages. Additionally, drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water per day to support the multiple health benefits of SierraSil®. Take medications and supplements four hours before or after SierraSil®. Call customer care if you have any questions, including the best time to take SierraSil®.

Can my pet take SierraSil®?

Anecdotal evidence suggests pets benefit from taking SierraSil®. Many of our customers try it on their pets with great results. For cats and small to medium dogs we suggest feeding your pet up to one capsule (667 mg) per day preferable on an empty stomach. If it is difficult to feed your pet on an empty stomach you may open a capsule up and sprinkle the SierraSil® powder on food. For pets over 23kg (50 lbs) increase dosage to one capsule per 20 kg (44 lbs). If using the SierraSil® powder product use one quarter a scoop to half a scoop for small to medium pets and one level scoop for large pets.

 

Can SierraSil® be taken if I have a sensitive stomach?

SierraSil® is a natural mineral complex that helps to curb inflammation in the body, including the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. SierraSil® is best taken on an empty stomach at least half an hour before eating to help prime the GI tract and reduce inflammation that may lead to indigestion. GI conditions such as acid reflux, gas, bloating, constipation, leaky gut syndrome and Crohn’s disease have been reported to benefit from SierraSil® due to its abilty to balance pH and protect the mucosal lining of the gut. For individuals with sensitive stomach, we recommend starting with a serving of 1 capsule per day and gradually increasing your serving as required. For all people, we recommend taking SierraSil® in the morning (before you’ve eaten breakfast) for great results, however if you are already on a strict routine with other medications fit it in as best as you can. Do I have to take SierraSil® forever?

Yes, most SierraSil users want to!. If you are taking SierraSil® to reduce pain or stiffness, you’ll likely want to keep taking SierraSil® to continue to enjoy the liberating benefits it provides. Does SierraSil® always work?

For the majority of people, SierraSil® works quickly in 2 weeks or less. For the few who don’t notice benefits within their first bottle, it is important to understand that by following the dosage guidelines very closely, SierraSil® works to reduce inflammation in the whole body, not just the joints. The timing of feeling observable benefits can vary between individuals because the body prioritizes the delivery of nutrients. Essential life functions and organs receive vital nutrients first to ensure critical life functions are optimized. For example if our blood is acidic minerals are used to balance or buffer our blood pH. Having a blood pH of around 7.4 is ideal for the transportation of oxygen. What is the recommended serving of SierraSil Joint Formula 14™?

SierraSil® Serving Guidelines
For best results take the SierraSil® capsules with only water, together (at one time) and away from food. Food or other beverages such as coffee, tea, juice or milk should be taken at least 30 minutes after, or 2 hours prior to SierraSil®. Take medications and supplements –at least 4 hours before or after SierraSil®. SierraSil® has detoxifying properties due to its rich clay mineral composition therefore it is strongly recommended drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water per day. Increased water intake assists the body in flushing out toxins and heavy metals that are eliminated out of the body when using SierraSil®. The serving size is based on a body weight of 70 kg (154 lbs). Please refer to the chart below to find your weight and the corresponding number of capsules to take.

Why do I have to take SierraSil® on an empty stomach?

SierraSil® Clinical Studies

SierraSil® has been subjected to two rigorous clinical studies and a mechanism of action study, which demonstrate that SierraSil® is effective in reducing joint pain and discomfort associated with osteoarthritis within 2 weeks of treatment. Both of the clinical studies measured SierraSil®'s effects on joint pain, stiffness and physical function and mobility were assessed using the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities (WOMAC) Osteoarthritis Index, a disease-specific self-administered health status measure that is clinically accepted as reflecting osteoarthritis disease activity. From these extensive scientific assessments, experts agree that SierraSil® is safe and effective in rapidly relieving joint stiffness, pain and discomfort, while also promoting healthy joint function. The details of these exciting studies are described below.

1. Human Pilot Study

In a 10 person pilot study, patients with moderate osteoarthritis of the knee were randomly divided into two groups – one group taking SierraSil® alone and the other taking SierraSil® plus Vincaria®, a cat’s claw extract. The total daily dosage of SierraSil® in this study was 3 capsules/day (2 g), and patients were not allowed to use rescue medications such as ibuprofen or aspirin. Baseline WOMAC scores were used as the primary efficacy variable. The capsules were taken for 10 days and post-therapy WOMAC scores and any side effects were noted. 100% of the patients in this pilot study reported significant improvements in their symptoms within 1 week of treatment, without side effects.

2. Internationally Registered Multi-Centre, Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial

In a internationally registered, multi-centered, randomized, double blind human clinical trial published in the Journal of Inflammation, over 100 patients with mild to moderate osteoarthritis took either low-dose (2 g), high-dose (3 g), low-dose SierraSil® with cat’s claw extract or placebo. The primary efficacy variable of the study was the WOMAC (Western Ontario and McMaster Universities) Osteoarthritis Index. The research showed that the beneficial effects of SierraSil® on joint function and mobility were greater in the SierraSil® treated groups compared to placebo. The therapeutic effects of SierraSil® were rapid with no side effects, and statistically significant benefits were noted within one week of treatment.

3. Mechanism of Action Study

The positive results of the clinical studies on SierraSil® are further supported by a mechanism of action study, published in the Journal of the American Nutraceutical Association (JANA). This study on human knee cartilage showed that SierraSil® prevented cartilage breakdown by 68 - 73% in vitro. The results of this study suggest that SierraSil® may affect transcriptional events, which is shown by the reduced production of nitric oxide in response to a specific inflammatory compound that promotes cartilage breakdown in the joints (cytokine IL-1B). Inhibitors of nitric oxide production, such as SierraSil, are clinically recognized to benefit numerous inflammatory diseases including arthritis. This study demonstrates the mechanism of action for the beneficial effects on joint health and function seen in the clinical trials.

SierraSil® Safety Research

SierraSil Health Inc. is committed to providing only the most safe and effective product to our customers. Therefore, in addition to the safety testing inherent in the clinical studies performed on SierraSil®, several other safety studies and tests have been carried out to demonstrate the safety of SierraSil®. These tests include the following toxicity and bioaccessiblity tests, which together provide sound evidence of the safety of SierraSil®.

1. Sub-Acute Oral Toxicity Study

In this study, a pharmaceutical industry standard 90-day SAOT study on 60 rats at 3 dosage levels, the highest being 35 times the Recommended Intake Level (RIL), found SierraSil® safe. An exhaustive and thorough examination of animal organs found no evidence of accumulation of any heavy metals or any toxic effects due to SierraSil®. Based on the findings of this study, the no-observed-adverse-effect-level (NOAEL) of SierraSil® in Sprague Dawley rats, following oral administration for 90 days was found to be more than 2,000 mg/kg body weight, the maximum dosage tested.

2. Bioaccessibility Testing

Pharmaceutical standard bioaccessibility testing was carried out on SierraSil® to confirm that the levels of individual minerals in SierraSil® are within safe recommended intake limits. The results show that only minute quantities of many minerals in SierraSil® are made available for absorption by the body, indicating not only that SierraSil® is very safe for consumption but also suggests an additive effect between the minerals and with the clay mineral structure to elicit the beneficial effects. 3. Medical Analysis

A small medical analysis was performed on 10 patients to evaluate their general chemistry and hematology after taking a recommended dosage of SierraSil®. The results showed no adverse effects on chemistry or hematological parameters in these patients. Furthermore, it was determined that SierraSil® has beneficial effects on C Reactive Protein (CRP), a key compound in the inflammatory process.

I had been using a bio feedback device called ONDAMED and that had helped with my plantar fasciitis as well as with my back pain. The problem was the distance. I had gotten a sample of your spray at an A4M medical conference. I looked at it for months and then for whatever reason, I threw it in my bag and decided to place it at the transition area for my Half Ironman. I actually stood the bottle up in my sneakers in case I needed it. I rode the difficult 56 miles and got of my bike and could not stand up straight. I grabbed the spray, using it on my back. I took a few moments changed to my sneakers and took off at a slow jog. Within minutes the pain was gone and I was able to finish a very hilly 13.2 miles with a very happy smile. I am very thankful that SierraSil was recommended to me for my cat. For about the past four months I've been concerned because of her limping. I brought her into the vet and was told that she pulled a few tendons and not to worry because the paw takes time to heal. I waited for a couple of weeks and brought her back. She was x-rayed and the outcome again was they couldn't find anything wrong with her. It was so hard for me to watch her limp not knowing what kind of pain she was feeling or what was wrong with her to begin with. This broke my heart. I had fallen and hurt my knee to a point I was having pain and swelling in my knee all the time. This letter bears tidings of great joy. Firstly, I want to share with you the continuing overall improvement in my skeletal framework. Today I began my 4th day of living without pain. In desperation, I made arrangements to have a Canadian-trained orthopedic surgeon at the Cascade Community Hospital in the state of Washington do a total knee replacement of my left knee. As I got closer to the time for my operation, I finally thought, "okay, the pain is so bad, I'm willing to try anything, why not SierraSil. I should have put off the surgery and given SierraSil a chance but I made the mistake of going ahead with the surgery on November 22, 2010. After returning home to Calgary I thought, "Okay, the left knee is now pain free, but what about the right knee?" After the operation I still couldn't stand on my right leg because my right knee hurt so bad. How I wished I would have started taking SierraSil BEFORE my operation and I would have been able to cancel it and throw away the knee braces; because that's what I've done with my right knee, by taking SierraSil after coming home from having the left knee replacement surgery. Some years ago I began to experience throbbing pain in my right knee, my doctor diagnosed Ostearthritis. I endured the painful condition for approximatley 1 year. In August of 2005 I had a life altering fall when I slipped and fell on a pool of canola oil which seeped out of a broken bottle and which was flowing across an aisle in a grocery store. Having been very active, my activities came to a grinding halt as both hips flared up in painful protest. Walking and bending were next to impossible and my nights felt like sleeping in a wringer washing, tossing from side to side in painful agony. Gardening or going for walks and hikes was out of the question. My steps were painful and very limited. X-Rays revealed that an arthritic condition had developed. For many years I have had problems with my knees and my lower back. My knees would twist out and it would be very a painful situation. When working in a squat position or kneeling I would have a lot of difficulty when rising due to pain in my knee joints. Awesome. Incredible. A Miracle! Those three words describe SierraSil. I started using the Joint Formula on January 10th, 2007. I have been on an anti-inflammatory prescription (Voltaren) for years for the horrific pain in my left big toe. Due to arthritis - I have no joint there as the arthritis dissolved it. I am rubbing bone on bone. Last year I was told that I needed surgery where they would go in and remove the arthritis, and put two screws in my big toe. I would not be able to walk on it for 6 weeks - not at all. I was waiting for a convenient time when I figured I could mostly sit for 6 weeks, but had not yet figured out a time - thank goodness! I fell while at work and herniated a disc in the lower back L-4, L-5, S-1. I had surgery on the lower back which consisted of 2 procedures known as dissectomies and laminectomies. I’ve had periodic episodes of pain since then to the point where I’ve missed months out of work. I re-injured my back, causing new injury to L-3 and again L-4, L-5 with a bulging disc, in other words a lot of pain. I had throbbing pain in my right thigh, my right hip, sciatic nerve pain in the right buttock and behind the right knee. I had been using crutches and I had to have a sister drive me to the doctor’s office. On the 14th of July I started using SierraSil. The last day of crutches was July 17th. All that throbbing pain in the thigh and behind the knee and around the right hip suddenly vanished. I could walk without the crutches, but still walked with a limp. I continued with SierraSil and it continued to improve slightly each day, a little more mobility and slightly less pain. On August 23, 2006, I felt so energetic I decided to give the tread mill a try. After my 1st surgery, I was never able to go faster than 2.8 miles per hour. 2 ½ years ago I sustained a compression fracture at T-5, as well as increased pain in my lower extremities. My options to minimize chronic pain were Oxycotin, Bextra, see a pain management MD for an epidermal or invasive back surgery. If I didn’t take Oxycotin or Bextra, the pain could be unbearable. September 2006 went to PEI on a golfing vacation and while there was introduced to SierraSil “SierraSil?” “Dirt you say?” “It’s good for arthritis?” I laughed. After reading the distributors literature and talking further to him I decided (with quiet skepticism) to give it a try and purchased 90 capsules of the Joint Plus. I’m currently 60 years old, played sports all my life, been active with lawn/garden work & other activities and had few health problems over the course of time until a year ago. In Oct 2005 I started taking Celebrex rather regularly since my groins hurt, legs became heavy and weak, shins ached, felt tightness in my lower back, had difficulty walking, experienced plenty of stiffness, found to hard to pick up items from the floor and had to rest in my recliner often- there were lots of “nagging pain days”. In July 2009 I began having some slight pain in my left arm while my husband and I were visiting the Grand Canyons. In August it was becoming more difficult to raise my arm without pain.  I have always been active and an outdoors person who loves walking, cycling, gardening and doing winter activities and love each particular season. I have thoroughly enjoyed the results of Sierra Sil Joint Formula 14.    I am young, just 30 now, and 2 years ago I was having extreme pain from a hip joint that was totally arthritic. I was born with congenital hip dysplasia. My right hip has been a problem right from the start of surgeries and now, getting older, it's definitely a problem. 2 years ago it was so bad that I went and saw a doctor about a hip replacement because that seemed the only way to be rid of the pain without death or dismemberment. I couldn't get into my car any more, I would fall into it.. and drag myself out of it. Not a nice way to live life.      The doctor wanted me to try waiting 2 more years because he wanted me to have any children I might want to have, first. At age 83 in 2007 I was a healthy person enjoying walking, jogging, and water skiing. That year my life changed. I got severe pain from my lower back right down my right leg to the foot with the knee joint extremely painful. Lying down and sitting down caused the most pain. I often stood up to eat meals. Driving just 2 km in the city caused severe pain while operating the brake and gas pedal. I had back and knee x-rays, treatment from two doctors, three chiropractors, and one sports clinic. I have been on SierraSil Since November 15th, 2007. I injured my knees in July of 2007. After having X-Rays, C.A.T. Scan, Ultra Sound and Blood tests, it was determined that I have Osteoarthritis and torn cartilage in the Meniscus of my right knee. The specialist made an appointment to see the Orthopedic Surgeon as it was determined that I would likely need some cartilage removed. We were leaving for a winter holiday and I was afraid that I would not be able to enjoy walks on the beach and sight seeing. I can't think of nothing more exciting then bonding with my mother who came to visit me from Czech Republic couple of years ago. Our Maine Coon Cat, Moxie is 11 years old and developed Arthritis. He is an indoor cat, but you can tell by his gait when the weather is going to change. Nick is an 8 Year old Shepherd Cross and a hardworking, agile and active dog, his nickname at the park is "Schwarzen-Nickster". He has had some minor "sport injuries" in the past due to his incredible drive and obsessiveness with paying ball. I am very thankful that SierraSil was recommended to me for my cat. For about the past four months I've been concerned because of her limping. I brought her into the vet and was told that she pulled a few tendons and not to worry because the paw takes time to heal. I waited for a couple of weeks and brought her back. She was x-rayed and the outcome again was they couldn't find anything wrong with her.
